Early Childhood Education
School Age Program
Cindy oversees the operation of the school which includes curriculum and program development, staff mentoring, relationship building, and sharing the Pre-K/Transitional K lead teacher role. She has been with
“Child Development Center” since 1988 which was originally located at Shoreline Christian Church, where Cindy served for 17 years. Eleven years ago, the school moved to Rock of Hope Baptist Church (originally Esperance Baptist Church). During those years, she has passionately worked with hundreds of children and families, several wonderful teachers and people related to the church. She stays in touch with many of the alumni – as long as 28 years!
She has been blessed with working with her mother Mrs. Pat, side by side since the beginning. Later, her two children, “Mr. Thomas” and Alyssa began helping as teacher’s assistants as well as her two nephews, including “Mr. David”. All of whom were students here as well! Cindy has taught all but one of her 7 nephews and nieces since 1992! She has been married to her husband, John, for 29 years.
When Cindy isn’t here, she enjoys eating her husband’s cooking, traveling, antiques, scale miniatures, scrapbooking, and attending church.
Celeste started working at ROHA-ECDC in January of 2014. Celeste is currently working on her AA in Early Childhood Education, has completed her 30 hours of STARS training, is up to date on her CPR/First Aid and has a love of teaching children. Her biggest dream as a child was to read to the littler kids at the library for story time. She enjoys helping children understand how unique, gifted, and special they are. She wants every child to feel loved and valued. She believes that every child can and will learn if they are taught in the way that they learn best. She is very good at observing and learning about children’s strengths.

Rachel has been a part of ROHA since winter 2014. She worked for a couple of years at other early learning programs and as a nanny. She was attending Edmonds Community College when we hired her. Rachel is also quite skilled with administrative tasks and technology. Right now, she plans the curriculum for the school-age after school program and assists in either classroom in the morning.
Playing games with the kids is also one of Rachel’s favorite things to do with the children with art coming in a close second.
In her spare time, Rachel nannies her cousins, enjoys cooking, researching on the Web and playing video games. She also loves going out to watch movies.

Pat has been with “Child Development Center” throughout most of it’s history, when it was at Shoreline Christian, when it moved to this church known originally as Esperance and now as Rock of Hope. During those years, she has enjoyed working with hundreds of children and families. Her specialty is teaching “Bible Class” year after year, planting the seed of God in every child she meets.
Pat has, in many ways, been the co-director – Cindy’s other half, for 28 years. Although she has been in all the roles at ECDC, she is happiest when she is teaching and being with the kids. She loves to find new ways to excite their interest and curiosity and particularly enjoys finding out what makes each child unique. Pat and Cindy work together on the curriculum, lesson planning, goal setting, and overall program development.
In addition to working with her daughter all these years she has been blessed to work alongside four of her grandchildren at one point. She has taught 6 out of the 7 grandchildren here as well. The children here are her first love. She also enjoys antique shopping, reading her Bible, being with her children and grandchildren, word games, and QVC!
Thomas began at ECDC as our maintenance person. After awhile, he discovered how much he enjoyed being with the children and seeing them grow and develop. He then took the required course to be a lead teacher as well as college credits. Although Thomas is qualified and experienced as a lead, he prefers to be in the assistant teacher position so he has more time to play with the kids, to run around with them and build ships with them!
Thomas enjoys new cultural experiences. He had the unique opportunity of going on missions trip with the church to Mexico. He helped the church and worked with the young children. Along with his family, he also sponsored and housed an exchange student from Australia.
Among his many talents and interests are drawing, teaching himself guitar, music, and attending church.
